lyrics

Like a bird…
to be free.

Like a baby stillborn Cradled in
the birth of the storm
I have torn away from those who’d…
torn away from those who'd comfort me,

I’ve tried, I’ve tried, I’ve really tried,

in a book, in an old-fashioned look don’t cry
until you’ve tried to ask for

Like a wanderer before a fire
or the inverse of desire
in the heart of a mute town crier who
wishes not to inspire a thought on the tongue
of a liar it was the shape of our silence
[tacet] I have saved all my ribbons for

I’ve tried, oh, I’ve tried,
I’ve really, really tried, really
tried in my own way to be freeeeeeee

If I, if, if I, if I have been
untrue
If I, if, if I, if I have been
unkind

Like a drunk on a wire
like a bird in a midnight choir

I have tried in my way to be free.
